discover, find, detect, ascertain

　　這些動詞均有發現之意。

　　discover : 普通用詞，指發現本來存在，但示被認識的事物、真理或情況。

　　Recently they have discovered a comet.

　　find : 普通用詞，可指偶然發現，也可指經過尋找后得到或重新獲得已失去的東西。強調動作的結果。

　　I have found the lost book.

　　detect : 正式用詞，強調經過周密觀察或研究而有所獲得和發現，尤指發現有意隱藏之物。

　　The sensors can also detect the presence of nuclear, chemical or biological agents.
